The Problem:

Understanding the context behind the Kinyeti Academy Mission.

The History

After a long and protracted civil war, South Sudan gained independence in 2011; making it the world’s youngest country.

Shortly after independence, two significant internal conflicts over political contestation broke out – first in December 2013, then in July 2016.

Despite these conflicts ending with a peace agreement in 2018, South Sudan continues to face political, economic, and educational challenges that impact millions of children.

The Problem

Low Access

More than 65% of K-12 school-age children are estimated to be out of school.

Poor Qaulity

Less than 10% of students aged 10 are proficient in foundational literacy and numeracy.

Inadequate Investment

Less than 5% of the 2024-2025 Financial Year public budget is allocated to education.

The Solution

Kinyeti Academy is expanding access to world-class education to develop leadership, innovation, and critical thinking skills to empower South Sudan’s next generation of changemakers.

It is difficult to imagine lasting peace and prosperity in South Sudan without a new generation of educated and ethical leaders. Investment in quality education is absolutely crucial to attain this hope.
